Contemporary Impressionist Landscape Painting, “Hibernation” by Colorado Contemporary Fine Artist Jody Ahrens

The deer and elk migrated weeks ago to the warmer valley below. The animals that stay behind will find a cozy place under the snow to hibernate, fish will live comfortably under the ice and aspens shed their leaves. Occasionally a wind breaks the winter silence as it whistles through the tree tops. The tall pines sway back and forth, adding a soft rhythmic creaking to the gentle sounds of Winter.

Contemporary Impressionist Landscape Painting, “No City Lights” by Colorado Contemporary Fine Artist Jody Ahrens

This lovely meadow is on the outskirts of a community that is still blessed with lots of natural open space. It’s horse country … it’s fishing country or just simply meandering in the riparian areas on foot. At night, there are a jillion stars … and out here, a jillion is a real number.

Contemporary Landscape Painting, Fine Art Oil Painting “Yellow Pranksters” by Colorado ImpressionistJody Ahrens

High Country Aspen trees seem to play pranks on the seasons. They are in sync during the summer months with harmonizing soft green colors. But as soon as fall begins, they spring forth with a bright array of yellow, orange and red colors to trick us into thinking maybe summer has not gone away. But the joke is on them as people flock in droves to enjoy their spectacular show.

Impressionist Landscape Painting, “Colorful Interlude” by Colorado Impressionist Jody Ahrens

FRESH OFF THE EASEL

Sometimes a location is so fascinating that artists return in different seasons to capture other moods. Is it still spring or is it early summer this time?

Orange Sky, Contemporary Impressionist Landscape Painting, Fine Art Oil Painting,“Sienna Sky" by Colorado Impressionist Jody Ahrens

This little piece is one of my personal favorites, and I really can’t tell you why. Every-once-in-awhile a piece of art just speaks to us … all of us. It awakens warm, happy feelings that reach out to us saying, “please take me home with you”. I should keep this one, but artists have to draw the line on collecting their own work somewhere!

Winter Impressionist Landscape Painting,Colorado Landscape, “Frosty Morning" by Colorado Impressionist Jody Ahrens

When the bare branches on trees collect moisture during an exceptionally cold, damp winter night, they appear as a frosty greenish/blue mass in the early dawn. It’s a beautiful, surreal fairyland that makes the red tops of dormant bushes along the pond seem even brighter.
